<Anchor> In the

case of the death of an Air Force Sergeant, the Military Prosecutor's Office Investigation Review Committee determined that some actions of the perpetrator, Sgt. Jang Mo, were retaliatory crimes. He also conveyed an opinion to prosecute. It is a recommendation that is not compulsory, but it sounds like a heavy burden to the military, who has lost public trust.

<Reporter> The

Military Prosecutor's Office Investigation Deliberation Committee was launched for the first time in history on the 11th in the wake of the sexual assault and death of an Air Force sergeant.

The investigation deliberation committee, made up of private experts, held a meeting until late yesterday (18th) and deliberated on this case in earnest.

The Investigation Deliberation Committee first recommended to the Ministry of National Defense that Sgt. A, who was arrested on charges of forcible molestation and assault, had sufficient evidence and should be sent to trial.

We also conveyed the opinion that some actions of Sgt. Jang may be retaliatory crimes under the Act on Aggravated Punishment for Certain Crimes.

Previously, the bereaved family claimed that Sgt. Jang actually threatened Sergeant A, saying, 'I'm going to die' right after the sexual harassment incident.

However, it was decided not to go to trial, saying that the charges against Sgt. Mo, who drove the vehicle in which the sexual harassment occurred, are not recognized.

The investigation deliberation committee also received a report from the Ministry of National Defense regarding the investigation into the allegations of poor initial response by the 20th Wing and the Air Force Headquarters military police, and decided to discuss it again when the supplementary investigation is completed.

The bereaved family, who attended the meeting and expressed their opinions, urged strict enforcement of the law.

[Kim Jung-hwan / Attorney for the bereaved family: Considering the seriousness of the case and the degree of damage to the victim, I think that it is not good to receive a judgment from the court (for the charge of neglect of duty)... .] The

opinion of the Investigation Deliberation Committee is not legally binding.

However, as it was launched to resolve public suspicions and secure the credibility of the investigation, the activities of the Investigation Deliberation Committee are expected to have a significant impact on the investigation and decision of the Joint Investigation Team of the Ministry of National Defense.
