Concerns have emerged from the World Health Organization (WHO) that the highly contagious Coronavirus Infectious Disease-19 Delta (India) mutation could become a 'dominant species' worldwide.

"The delta mutation is in the process of becoming a dominant species worldwide due to its remarkably high transmission power," Reuters news agency reported.

It is known that the delta mutation is about 60% stronger than the original novel coronavirus as well as the alpha mutation from the UK.

In the UK, delta mutations have overtaken alpha mutations and become the dominant species, and in the United States, 10% of new infections are due to delta mutations.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) director Rochelle Wallensky told ABC that he believes the delta mutation will become the dominant species in the United States.

WHO believes that delta mutations are now prevalent in more than 80 countries.
