Updated list of countries whose nationals are allowed to freely travel to Europe

The European Council today released an updated list of countries, special administrative regions and other regional entities and authorities whose restrictions on travel to Europe should be lifted.

Based on the criteria and conditions set forth in the Recommendation, as of June 18, 2021, Member States must gradually lift restrictions on travel at the external borders for residents of the following countries: Albania, Australia, Israel, Japan, Lebanon, New Zealand, Republic of Macedonia, Rwanda , Serbia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, the United States, and China remains subject to reciprocity.

Travel restrictions should also be gradually lifted in the two special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macao.

The requirement of reciprocity for these special administrative regions has been lifted.

On May 20, 2021, the criteria for determining which third countries should now lift travel restrictions were updated.

It covers the epidemiological situation and the overall response to COVID-19 as well as the reliability of the information and data sources available.

Reciprocity should also be taken into account on a case-by-case basis.

The countries affiliated with the Schengen / Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland also participate in this recommendation
