Stockholm ranks ninth in the environmental agency's ranking, out of a total of 323 cities in Europe.

Emissions of small particles into the air, PM2.5, have been measured and the ranking is based on an average value for the last two years.

Max Elmgren is an environmental researcher at the City of Stockholm and confirms that Stockholm has very good values for this type of smaller particles.

- But there are other air pollutants that are significantly higher in Sweden and Stockholm.

Bl.a.

PM10 (airborne particles with a size less than 10 µm in diameter), nitrogen dioxide, ozone and occasionally also carbon monoxide.

Lack of large industries

Why does Stockholm stand out compared to other major European cities?

- Stockholm has no major industries in the city, but has put these outside the city center, we have a well-developed district heating network instead of gas, our traffic emissions are the largest source of PM2.5 in Stockholm, but even there we have a relatively new vehicle fleet in Stockholm .

If you only look at capitals, Stockholm comes second, the best is Tallinn, which is fourth on the list. One on the list is Umeå, and another Swedish city is also at the top, Uppsala, which ends up in sixth place.
