Palestine cancels the agreement with Israel on vaccines because it “does not conform to specifications”

On Friday, the Palestinian Authority canceled an agreement with Israel to receive one million doses of the Pfizer vaccine against the Corona virus, after it became clear to it that these doses “do not conform to specifications.”

Government spokesman Ibrahim Melhem said in a press conference that “after the technical staff at the Ministry of Health examined the first batch of Pfizer vaccines that were received this evening from Israel, it was found that they do not conform to the specifications contained in the agreement,” adding that “the government refuses to receive vaccines.” It is about to expire.”

Melhem added, "The prime minister confirmed the government's refusal to receive vaccines whose validity is about to expire," adding that "the government is awaiting the supply of vaccines from the parent company in batches according to the agreement concluded with it, the price of which was prepaid to the company."

For her part, Palestinian Minister of Health Mai al-Kila said, "The specialized teams in the Ministry of Health found that the vaccines we received today from the Israeli side did not conform to the specifications, so the government decided to return them."

The Palestinian minister explained that these doses were for medical staff working in intensive care rooms designated for coronavirus patients, and staff working in emergency departments.

And the Israeli government had confirmed earlier that it would give the Palestinian Authority one million doses of the Pfizer-Biontech vaccine against the Corona virus.

According to an official statement issued by the office of Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and published by "Reuters", the Israeli government decided to give the Palestinian Authority one million doses of the Pfizer-Biontech vaccine against Corona.

The statement stressed that these doses will be interchangeable, which means that the Authority will give one of its shipments expected to arrive this year to Israel.

"The Palestinian Authority, in return, agreed to give Israel a reciprocal number of Pfizer doses from one of its own shipments, which is expected to arrive later this year," he said.
