The second reason is the mutation of the virus strains, she added.

“Now on the territory of the world, in 70 states and on the territory of the Russian Federation, the share of the Indian strain, which is called delta, is sharply increasing,” Golikova said.

She emphasized that this strain has a higher contagiousness in relation to those strains that have been observed previously.

"Infection with this strain in closed rooms reaches 60%, in open spaces - up to 40%," the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.

Golikova also said that 19.7 million people were vaccinated with the first component of the coronavirus vaccine in Russia, 16.1 million people were vaccinated with both components.
