The decision from the health and medical care committee means that the hospital in Karlshamn is no longer on standby at night.

Instead, the staff is strengthened during the day to be able to receive more patients then.

Right now, the X-ray clinic has over 6,000 referrals waiting.

- We want to invest in X-rays in Karlshamn by streamlining X-rays in Karlshamn during the day, every day of the week.

The emergency preparedness that now exists at night is thus moved to daytime so that we can receive more patients and shorten the queues, says director of health and medical care Kjell Ivarsson.

Transport to other hospitals

But the removal of night X-rays means that around 350 patients per year will need to be transported to other hospitals.

The decision also means that patients where, for example, stroke is suspected must be taken to Karlskrona or Kristianstad at night.

On average, there are 38 patients per year.

- During that time of day, we see that we can handle patients through a collaboration within the region in a different way.

You must be able to feel safe and that you will be taken care of if you need an emergency X-ray, says Kjell Ivarsson.

The decision is part of reaching a balanced budget in health care. In the long run, it is expected to be able to sell care to other regions during the day and evening.
