Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn has campaigned for further necessary caution even in the upcoming main travel season, despite the more relaxed Corona situation. "It can be a good summer," said the CDU politician on Friday in Berlin. There is reason to be optimistic, but especially if everyone remains cautious. Spahn referred to the more contagious delta variant of the corona virus, which is also spreading in Germany. This is happening at a low level, but quickly. In Great Britain it is shown that if the spread is strong, planned opening steps could be called into question again. This should be avoided.

According to Spahn, every second German citizen has now received at least one injection for the corona vaccinations.

As of today, 41.5 million people or 50.1 percent of the total population received a first dose.

Accordingly, 29.6 percent of the population are fully vaccinated with the second syringe, which is usually necessary.

Masks could now be left out in good weather, especially outside, said the minister.

In interiors and for example on public transport, wearing a mask is still important in order to protect yourself and others.

Spahn called on vacationers to use the now nationwide network of rapid test centers to break chains of infection among travelers returning.

The Delta variant discovered in India is spreading in Great Britain and, despite the high vaccination rate, is significantly increasing the number of new infections.

Further easing that had already been planned has been postponed.

This virus variant is still not very common in Germany, but its proportion is increasing.

According to the latest report by the Robert Koch Institute, it was 6.2 percent in calendar week 22 (May 31 to June 6).

In the previous week it was 3.7 percent.

The number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days fell further to 10.3 nationwide (previous day: 11.6; previous week: 18.6), as the RKI announced on Friday.
