(Fighting New Coronary Pneumonia) Cambodia's vaccination is advancing rapidly, officials say it is expected to achieve early vaccination of tens of millions of people

China News Service, Phnom Penh, June 18 (Reporter Ouyang Kaiyu) Cambodia's vaccination work is advancing rapidly. Officials say that 16% of the country's population has completed two doses of COVID-19 vaccination so far.

According to a report from the Ministry of Health of Cambodia on the 18th, 799 new confirmed cases of new coronary pneumonia were reported in the country on the same day, 910 new cases were cured and discharged, and 14 new cases died.

Among the newly confirmed cases, 97 were imported confirmed cases and 702 were community-transmitted infections.

Up to now, Cambodia has confirmed a total of 41,000 cases, cured a total of 35,000 cases, and a total of 394 deaths.

According to a report from the Cambodian National Vaccination Committee that day, up to now, Cambodia has vaccinated 3.138 million people, of which 2.623 million have completed two doses, accounting for about 16% of the country’s population.

The Cambodian government previously promulgated a new crown vaccination work plan, and plans to vaccinate 6.22 million adults in three phases this year.

By the middle of 2022, the country's 10 million adult population will be vaccinated, realizing the establishment of herd immunity.

The committee stated that the vaccination process is very smooth and it is confident that the national vaccination target of 10 million people will be achieved ahead of schedule in November this year.

Vaccination work is related to the country’s economic development. A report released by the World Bank recently predicted that Cambodia’s economic growth rate will reach 4% this year, but the prospects for recovery are still full of uncertainties and depend on the development of the domestic new crown epidemic and the speed of vaccination.

If the speed of vaccination work slows down, coupled with the implementation of frequent, long-lasting and nationwide "city lockdown" measures, Cambodia's gross domestic product (GDP) growth will only be 1% this year.
