The United States cannot rest until the "promised equality" is achieved for all Americans "in every corner" of the country.

This statement was made by US President Joe Biden at the signing ceremony of the law "On the recognition of June 19 as the day of national independence."

“This, it seems to me, is the meaning of the holiday on June 19,” the head of state said, stressing that this is “the first new national holiday in almost forty years - since the establishment of Martin Luther King Day”.

By making June 19 a public holiday, Biden said, all Americans will be able to “feel the importance of this day, learn from the history of the United States.

In addition, according to the 46th President, this will allow citizens to "glorify progress", as well as to look not only at the path that has already been passed, but also at the one that the country has yet to overcome.

“In truth, just celebrating June 19 is not enough.

Ultimately, the emancipation of enslaved black Americans marked not the end of the struggle for equality in America, but only its beginning, "the American leader emphasized.

He also noted that it is for this reason that the current administration has made "persistent efforts to combat racial discrimination," including in the housing sector.

Biden explained that the "harsh reality problem" is that a home owned by a black family tends to "receive a lower appraised value than a similar home in the same neighborhood as a white family."

Steps taken

Recall that when Joe Biden first came to power in January, he signed four decrees aimed at combating racial inequality, which reported on measures to combat xenophobia, to ensure fair access to housing, and to eradicate bias in criminal justice.

In the White House, these innovations were then called the first steps to eradicate systemic racism.

Announcing the innovations, Biden recalled the death of African American George Floyd due to the actions of a police officer.

According to him, this incident opened the eyes of millions of people around the world.

“It was justice with a knee around our neck, we will not forget this,” he said then.

It is worth noting that in his inaugural speech, Biden, among other things, touched on the topic of "ideology of white supremacy."

In his opinion, the United States is going through a "historic moment of crisis and difficulties," and unity is the "way forward" for the United States.

In the future, Biden went on to call for the fight against manifestations of racial injustice.

So, in April, he announced the need to "come to grips" with the problems of systemic racism and racial inequality, which, according to the president, are observed in the law enforcement sphere and in the criminal justice system of the United States.

As the American leader noted, not only local authorities and law enforcement agencies, but also the federal center should "step up their efforts" in this direction.

Biden later called on Congress to endorse the George Floyd Police Reform Act, which had already been approved by the House of Representatives.

After that, the American leader said in an interview with NBC about the "extremely disadvantageous position" of African Americans in the United States.

According to him, in a number of spheres of public life, they are faced with manifestations of systemic racism.

“I don’t think America is racist, but I think that vestiges of segregation laws and pre-existing slavery have left their mark, and today we have to deal with it,” Biden said at the time.

In mid-May, the President of the United States canceled the norms for the protection of historical memorials, introduced by the previous head of the White House, Donald Trump, during the period of riots and rallies against racial injustice.

Two initiatives of the former leader provided for tougher punishment for damage to monuments.

At the end of the month, on the anniversary of Floyd's death, Biden held a meeting with his relatives at the White House.

Commenting on this event, Washington has once again called for the fight against racial injustice.

Already in early June, Biden again issued a statement in which he called the "terrorist activities of the white supremacy movement" the main threat to the United States.

According to him, the United States cannot and should not "provide a safe haven for hatred."

Then the head of the White House said that he had previously signed the law "On hate crimes during the COVID-19 pandemic."

He noted that his administration also plans to present a broader strategy to combat domestic terrorism and violence caused by "the most heinous hate crimes and other forms of intolerance."

"The manifestation of the political situation"

Meanwhile, political analysts interviewed by RT regard Biden's current statement about the coming equality for all US citizens as another domestic political move.

“This is just one of the manifestations of the political conjuncture of the current American administration.

Obviously, with such statements, Biden is trying to switch the attention of the inhabitants of the United States from the socio-economic inequality that is vividly manifested in American society to racial issues.

After all, such difficulties are easier to solve in front of the public, by undertaking all sorts of innovations that actually have little effect on anything, "Konstantin Blokhin, a leading researcher at the Center for Security Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, explained in an interview with RT.

He also noted that, in contrast to "maintaining the appearance of violent action to eradicate racial injustice," real steps to eliminate socio-economic inequality would cost the current administration a lot of money and time.

“So Washington decided to go with the first option,” Blokhin says.

According to him, Biden's internal political course, aimed "at supporting the colored population," is motivated by the desire of the Democratic Party to mobilize its electorate.

“In Congress and at other levels, the political struggle will only intensify.

Democrats are already being criticized for failing to bring order to their own country.

Therefore, in these conditions, they need to attract the colored electorate to their side, to make sure that its representatives do not go over to the Republicans, ”the analyst said.

At the same time, Blokhin emphasized that the day of national independence declared as a state holiday does not in any way contribute to solving the problem of racial inequality.

“Instead of somehow uniting the people, the current administration headed by Biden, on the contrary, adds fuel to the fire.

The head of the White House deliberately singles out one segment of American society, effectively declaring it a favorite.

And light-skinned Americans are positioned as domestic terrorists rebelling against tolerant America.

This approach only divides citizens, ”the analyst emphasized.

American political scientist Malek Dudakov has a similar opinion.

According to him, Biden, calling for the elimination of systemic racism, is essentially launching a "program of affirmative action."

“Biden and his team are making blacks a de facto privileged segment of society.

But Democrats benefit from acting this way while maintaining high levels of support among African Americans.

In the same context, it is necessary to consider the announcement of the day of national independence, ”he explained in a conversation with RT.

For his part, Konstantin Blokhin believes that in pursuit of a left-wing radical agenda, Biden and his entourage will continue to take measures designed only to mask the existing problems.

Malek Dudakov does not exclude that the Democrats may begin to actively promote the initiative "to pay federal reparations to the descendants of black slaves."

“Democrats offer to pay people simply for being the descendants of slaves. But it is now extremely difficult to determine exactly who they are. However, this issue is indicated on the agenda. Therefore, I do not exclude that all African Americans will be financed - under the influence of the BLM movement and other similar forces, which are used as the "militant squad" of the Democratic Party. He comes into play every time there is a need to intimidate political opponents, ”the expert concluded.
