Hälsinge residents in Söderhamn, Ljudal, Edsbyn and Delsbo have probably seen a small aircraft at a height of 60 meters recently.

The purpose is to map the bedrock and the measurements are made at a line distance of 200 meters.

SGU needs to fly at low altitude to obtain useful data and the flights are made in suitable weather at 05.30-10 and 17-22.

- Our data can be used as a basis by municipalities, county councils and companies.

For example, we register the earth's magnetic field, naturally occurring gamma radiation from the ground and bedrock, and the earth's electrical conductivity, says Henrik Johansson, function manager for aeronautical geophysics at SGU.

Was last in Hälsingland in the 70s

SGU conducts surveys throughout Sweden and was most recently in the region in the 1970s.

At that time, for example, there was a lack of instruments for measuring the electrical conductivity of the ground, which can be used to produce information on groundwater levels and water sources.

Watch Henrik Johansson tell and follow into the plane in and up in the air in the video.
