For five years, the company Think Pink operated waste management at two locations in Botkyrka - Kassmyra and Kagghamra - before they went bankrupt in the autumn of 2020.

In Kassmyra, the company had a permit to store 10,000 tonnes of construction waste.

But now it turns out that the quantities have been significantly exceeded.

According to estimates by the National Forensic Center, the rubbish heap on the site is at least three times as large.

This is despite the fact that the municipality carried out regular inspections of the facility.

Political battle over responsibility for the rubbish heap

The moderates, who are in opposition in the municipality, do not believe that the majority has done enough to stop Think Pink.

- If they had used the right paragraphs in the Environmental Code, they would have been fined which would have had an immediate effect, says Opposition Councilor Stina Lundgren (M).

The chairman of the municipal board, Ebba Östlin (S), says that they have done what they could and blames the design of the legislation.

- We have placed injunctions, we have tried to get rid of the company and appealed to the County Administrative Board.

They have said no when we wanted to remove Think Pink from both Kassmyra and Kagghamra.

The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency said no

In February, Botkyrka municipality tried to get help from the Swedish Enforcement Agency to get rid of the rubbish heaps, but was then refused by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency.

The authority did not consider that there were reasons for the state to bear the cost - based on the documentation submitted.
