In the clip, you hear Johanna Enarsson tell how she felt when she chose to resign from a job she enjoyed.

In the summer of 2018, after twelve years of training, Johanna Enarsson became a specialist in hand surgery.

She was then offered a monthly salary of SEK 58,000, a sum that was significantly lower than what other employers could offer.

So she left Sahlgrenska.

- I was too angry about the bad and low salary that I thought I was offered then, says Johanna Enarsson.

"Challenges in certain areas"

According to Västra Götaland's medical association, Sahlgrenska's salaries are on average much lower than other care providers, which leads to many doctors leaving Sahlgrenska.

Maria Aleniusson, HR director at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, does not agree with that description.

- Of course we have challenges when it comes to recruiting and retaining certain specialists, but in general we do not have such a hard time recruiting.

Some leave due to salary, but overall we do not see that salary is the main factor in choosing to change jobs, says Maria Aleniusson.

Back to SU

Hand surgeon Johanna Enarsson has been working at a private clinic for a few years now.

But after the summer, she returns to her old workplace at Sahlgrenska.

And goes down in salary again.

Now you choose to return to Sahlgrenska after a few years in the private sector.

Why?

- There is so much commitment and drive and so much positive at Sahlgrenska.

I choose a fairly substantial salary reduction, but take Sahlgrenska instead, says Johanna Enarsson.

In the clip below, you can hear Sahlgrenska University Hospital's HR director Maria Aleniusson about the salary situation for doctors.
