June 17, 2021 As part of the Pnrr funds, "the ministry has provided an allocation of 300 million for the overcoming of architectural barriers in places of culture and the strengthening of the skills of operators": explained the Minister of Culture, Dario Franceschini, by answering the question time in the Senate to a question by the representatives of Italia Viva Daniela Sbrollini and Davide Faraone.

"The presence of architectural barriers - Franceschini recalled - represents a very strong criticality in the places of Italian culture". The planned investment "will largely go to museums and state institutions, but a 10% share, which may increase, will go to regional, provincial and civic sites", he added. The minister accepted Senator Sbrollini's invitation to take initiatives to remove barriers in all places, public or private managed by public bodies or non-profit organizations, appointed to host cultural events and services, such as theaters and cinemas: "We will work on it - he said - both within the resources of the NRP and with ordinary resources ".

Franceschini also spoke of support for bands, "to which refreshments have been recognized: we will continue to work on it, it is a sector that deserves the widest recognition".

Itsart, a platform for the promotion of culture

The minister then replied to a question from the Brothers of Italy on the digital platform for the dissemination of Italian culture which started on May 31, Itsart. "In these hours, contacts are underway between Rai and the company that manages Itsart to create forms of collaboration", he said, specifying that two weeks after its launch, the platform has registered 400 thousand accesses, 35 thousand registered users and 120 streaming on the contents in catalog which are more than 700. The company is 51% controlled by Cdp and the remaining 49% by Chili. Itsart, Franceschini reiterated, was "born from a law that the Parliament approved" and started from the idea "to temporarily fill the phase of partial closure and reopening and have a place that could offer live cultural events",and it is entrusted to the management of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti "which has independently chosen a private partner (Chili, ed) and it is right that politics should not interfere".

Incentives to foundations with corps de ballet

For the dance sector, explained the Minister of Culture, Dario Franceschini, the government "intervened with urgent measures in the Sostegni decree and with measures contained in the related bill on the themes of the show that is about to arrive in Parliament ": there" it will be possible to establish criteria that provide incentives and support to the opera foundations that will choose, without obligation, to keep the dance troupe within their own activities ".

"Each foundation was invited to formulate a proposal to the vigilant ministries, accompanied by documentation on financial sustainability", added the minister, responding to a question from Forza Italia and recalling that "only four foundations have kept their dance troupe," while the other 10 had to dispose of it for budgetary reasons ".

Lombroso Museum

The

Lombroso

Museum of Turin, which ended up at the center of the controversy because it was accused of "scientific racism", "is owned by the University of Turin" and according to the documentation of the Icom (International Council of Museums) Italy "complies with the standards to remain open ", as explained by the Minister of Culture, Dario Franceschini, in his question time speech in the Senate.

"I can't close it, even if I wanted to - he stressed - but if I could I wouldn't close it, because my job is to open museums and not close them". "Today Lombroso's anatomical studies are rightly rejected by scholars - recalled Franceschini, responding to a question from the senator of Maie Saverio De Bonis - but they represent a piece of history of the development of physical anthropology. The current layout of the museum is studied in such a way as to make known Lombroso's thought from the period in which he lived, demonstrating the groundlessness of the prejudices of physiognomy, of a controversial part of scientific thought that collides with current social sensitivity, thus preserving its memory in a critical way " .
