"The conversation between Secretary of State Blinken and Foreign Minister Lapid became a continuation of contacts with the new government of Israel," the State Department's press service said.

Blinken reaffirmed the US commitment to the security of Israel and spoke about the importance of bilateral relations.

He also stated the need to develop Palestinian-Israeli relations "on a practical plane."

Earlier, US President Joe Biden held telephone talks with the new Prime Minister of Israel, Naftali Bennett.
