The Jordan News Agency reported the arrest of former parliamentarian Osama Al-Ajarmeh yesterday, Wednesday, after parliament voted in favor of his dismissal about two weeks ago.

The agency quoted Jordanian Interior Minister Mazen Al-Faraya as saying that the arrest was made on the basis of a memorandum issued by the Public Prosecutor of the State Security Court, without further details.

On June 6, the Jordanian House of Representatives (the first chamber of parliament) voted in favor of the Ajarmah dismissal, against the background of what it considered offensive statements by him against the king and society.

The decision to dismiss Al-Ajarma came days after the parliament suspended his membership late last month, due to his abuse of the parliament, its members and its internal system, according to the parliament’s decision, following his intervention in Parliament regarding the incident of power outages throughout the kingdom.

On May 21, the electricity was completely cut off throughout Jordan, and Anadolu Agency quoted energy distribution companies as saying that this was due to a malfunction in the transmission network of the state electricity company.

At the time, Al-Ajarmeh said that the power outage was deliberate to prevent clan solidarity rallies with Palestine in light of the recent Israeli aggression, but his colleagues demanded that he prove what he says is true.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abdel Moneim Al-Awdat, considered during the session that Al-Ajarmeh’s speech violates the internal rules, because it is outside the content of the session.
