The bill for the introduction of the 12th federal holiday will be sent for signature to the President of the United States, Joe Biden.

"We have few federal holidays - we celebrate the most important ... And I cannot remember a more important historical milestone than the end of slavery in the United States," - said Rep. Carolyn Maloney.

60 people worked on the bill.

The American Civil War began on April 12, 1861 and, according to experts, became the bloodiest in the entire history of the state.

The result of the conflict was the abolition of slavery throughout the country.
