The requirement for a driving license for personal watercraft will take effect on 1 May 2022. In order to obtain a driving license, you must be 15 years of age and have completed training that is both theoretical and practical.
The training takes about two days and ends with a test.
"Start booking students"
Because those who want their driver's license ready for next season, it will already be possible to apply for a driver's license from the Swedish Transport Agency from 1 July this year.
At present, about 40 educators around the country have shown interest in starting educational activities.
- The goal is that no drivers will be stranded during the next season.
To succeed in this, the educators need to start booking students for their educations at once, says Bo Bergström, section manager at the Swedish Transport Agency.
Education in several places
Medborgarskolan Nord is one of those who plan to start training personal watercraft drivers in Norrbotten and Västerbotten.
The theory part will be held at a distance and the practical test will be available in several places.
- It is very exciting, right now we have a practice area in Piteå. Until next year, the aim is to have practice areas in Skellefteå, Umeå and Lycksele, says Helene Jacobsson, development strategist at Medborgarskolan.
