SVT went to Gårdtjärn farm in Kovland to check the situation on the strawberry front.

It started flowering in early June and farmer Magnus Alskog expects a nice harvest in early July, much as it usually is.

 - A lot can happen.

It may look good now in June, but then there will be a stink fly (a small beetle that sucks the plant juice from the strawberries, reds note) and they are weather dependent.

The strawberry is a bit stingy but it is very fun when things are going well, says Magnus Alskog.

Dearest old man

It is said that the northern strawberry is the tastiest, thanks to the midnight sun and the cool nights.

 - There is a slump in growing strawberries in Norrland.

There is huge potential here and then it is ridiculous that we should drive strawberries up here where they are at their best, from the southern parts of the country and from Europe, says Magnus Alskog.
