Former Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun, one of the Democratic presidential candidates, officially declared his candidacy today (17th) with the slogan 'Strong Republic of Korea, Economic President'.

At 2 pm today, former Prime Minister Jeong held a candidacy declaration ceremony at Nuritm Square in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, and threw out his candidacy, saying, “I will become a strong economic president of the Republic of Korea that fights against all inequality.

"If I can touch the hearts of the sick and exhausted people, heal their wounds, and close all the gaps caused by injustice and inequality, I will gladly devote all my life and the rest of my life."

At the same time, he said, "The cause of inequality is the economy at the beginning and at the end," and also presented his promises such as an innovative economy, an era of $40,000 in income, and a caring society.

In order to usher in an era of $40,000 in income, Prime Minister Jeong also proposed to freeze dividends to major shareholders of chaebol conglomerates and to freeze executive and employee salaries for three years, including public financial companies.

Also, referring to the 'Future Seed Account', which supports 100 million won for all newborns proposed by him for 20 years, he said, "Through the basic asset formation program, the Let's provide a 'national chance'," he insisted.

Regarding the real estate problem, he pointed out that it is the beginning of a wealth gap that causes people to feel deprived, and proposed a public housing supply.

He announced that he would drop a 'supply bomb' of public rental housing on young people and ordinary people, and that he would supply 1 million public rental housing units and 300,000 public apartment units within his term of office.

At the same time, he added that he would help the 2030 generations dream of 'owning a home' by saying that 150,000 of the public condominium units will be supplied at half price and the remaining 150,000 units will be supplied at 'half price'.

Ex-Prime Minister Jeong insisted, "Unverified morality and unexamined possibilities cannot be trusted by the public." interpretation has emerged.

Prime Minister Chung started the event with a '2030 Talk Show' where he exchanged questions and answers with young people, instead of giving congratulatory speeches from politicians.

Due to the COVID-19 quarantine problem, the number of on-site attendees was limited to 99, but about 40 incumbent lawmakers attended.

Among them, there were also interpretations of whether the so-called 'anti-Lee Jae-myung solidarity' was being built with the participation of rivals within the party, such as former Representative Lee Nak-yeon and Rep.
