Stromboli and Etna active at the same time.

The Etna Observatory of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, announces that the monitoring networks recorded a variation of the monitored parameters at 3.32 pm.

A landslide was identified from the seismic track and from the video surveillance cameras.

Stromboli

The surveillance system of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology-Etna Observatory of Catania recorded on the Stromboli volcano, in the Aeolian Islands, an explosion at the North-East crater which triggered a landslide with the rolling of lava material that occurred 'detached from the altitude of 600 meters above sea level. At 3.28 pm, the Ingv detected a seismic signal lasting about two minutes, associated with the landslide event observed through the surveillance cameras. The amplitude of the tremor is at medium-low levels.

Etna

On the front of the largest of the volcanoes, from the images of the video surveillance cameras it is observed that the lava fountain from the south-east crater of Etna, ceased at 14.50, but the lava overflow directed to the south-west remains and continues to be fed . There is also a second lava flow produced by a second overflow of the south-east crater that spreads towards the Valle del Bove. The volcanic tremor, after reaching the maximum value at 14.20, suffered a rapid decrease returning to the average level. Currently this parameter shows a trend towards a further decrease. The center of the volcanic tremor sources remains located in the south-east crater area at an elevation of approximately 2,800 meters above sea level.

The activity of Etna caused the emission of an eruptive cloud which turned into a 'rain' of lava ash that fell copiously over Catania. The eruption on Etna has not had any impact, at the moment, on the operation of the Fontanarossa airport in Catania.
