Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is continuing, this Wednesday, June 16, a three-day visit to Azerbaijan, one of his country's main allies.

With his counterpart Ilham Aliev, the Head of State notably visited Shusha on Tuesday, in Nagorno-Karabakh, a symbolic city returned to Baku's control in the fall of 2020, at the end of a conflict with Armenia.

Turkey had provided decisive support to Azerbaijan in this war, and the two presidents have multiplied the announcements.

The pro-Erdogan media are showing their enthusiasm the day after the Turkish president's visit to Shusha.

It is the first visit, they write, of a foreign leader in Nagorno-Karabakh.

In other words, Azerbaijan has restored its authority over

Nagorno-Karabakh

, and the Turkish ally intends to reap the commercial, political and military benefits.

Signature of a declaration

Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Ilham Aliev signed a declaration in Choucha in which their countries undertake to deepen their ties in these three areas.

Turkey could in particular make Azerbaijan a " 

production center

 " for its armed and unarmed drones, which played a decisive role in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The strength of Azerbaijan is our strength,

 " and vice versa, said Tayyip Erdogan, announcing the upcoming opening of a Turkish consulate in Shusha.

Standardization

The Turkish head of state also spoke of a possible normalization of Turkish-Armenian relations, even though he was in a city highly symbolic for the Armenians.
