As the head of Rospatent Grigory Ivliev noted, the average duration of consideration of applications for inventions in the specified period was 3.5 months.

“According to the results of five months of 2021, 2.7% more applications for utility models were filed (3477) than in the same period last year.

In the reporting period, the number of patent applications from legal entities increased by 25.7% (5492), while the largest increase in the number of applications was recorded from universities and educational institutions - 41.8%, ”he explained.

It is also reported that the number of applications from research institutes and scientific institutions increased by 31.3%, and from other legal entities by 11.4%.

As Rospatent emphasized, such data indicate economic activity in the country, despite the restrictive measures introduced earlier due to COVID-19.

In addition, in 2020, against the general background, the most active area in terms of filing applications was pharmaceuticals.

During this period, 1,575 applications were filed, which is 22% more than in 2019 (1,292 applications).

The reason for this growth is the need to develop medicines for the treatment of coronavirus infection, Ivliev said.

Also, in 2020, compared to 2019, there was an increase in the receipt of applications in such areas as unmanned aerial vehicles (by 12.8%), information technology - supercomputers (by 52%), space technologies (by 17.2%).

Earlier it was reported that the Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent), since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, has issued 159 patents for technologies in the field of combating viruses and concomitant diseases.
