Mali: a Nigerien soldier killed and two French wounded in the "three borders" area

A Nigerien soldier was killed on Tuesday (June 15th) during fighting in the “three borders” zone in Mali. Three other soldiers were injured: another Nigerien soldier and two French soldiers from the Barkhane force.

This clash occurred on Tuesday, June 15 in the In Araban sector in Mali, southwest of Ménaka, in Liptako, a few kilometers from the Niger border.

A Nigerien soldier from the 114th Internal Security Company was killed in the fighting, another was injured.

These Nigerien soldiers were supported by commando groups from the Barkhane force, two of whom were also injured.

Their condition is stable and their vital prognosis is not engaged.

This combined operation of the Nigerien and French forces, underlines the staff of the armies, was a normal and planned operation along the Malian border against elements of the terrorist group Islamic State in the great Sahara (EIGS).

Soldiers on the ground received support from Mirage 2000s and helicopters.

The general staff specifies that around ten terrorists were therefore "

neutralized

", either killed or taken prisoner.

Without specifying whether among them are heads of the EIGS.
