The government's broadband goal for 2020 was that 95 percent of households should have access to a connection of 100 Mbit / s or faster.

According to the report "Sweden not fully connected in 2025", every fourth household in Kalmar County lacks a connection at that speed.

Torsås municipality and Högsby municipality are the worst off - not even half of the households have access to fast broadband.

In Torsås, however, a municipally paid expansion of the fiber network is underway, which will provide all municipal citizens with fiber broadband by 2023.

Calms farthest from the goal

The exact reasons why Kalmar County in particular is worse off are not answered in the report.

But according to Terese Bengard, operations manager for All of Sweden to live, it is clear that the most difficult areas to get a fiber expansion in are sparsely populated and rural areas.

- There is a long distance between the properties and it takes more to get a good connection.

Commercial players may not want to do business out there and you may not want to pay 100,000 - 200,000 kronor to get a good connection either.

Then financial support is needed, she says.

The report shows that Kalmar County, based on current conditions, will not be able to reach the broadband target in the foreseeable future and the county is the worst located in Sweden.

"Fiber as important as electricity"

Terese Bengard draws a parallel to the fact that digitalisation is becoming as important as electricity.

- You do not move into a house without electricity today.

Now there are questions about whether there is fiber or opportunities for connection in the house, otherwise it may not be interesting to buy it.

Kronoberg County is in fourteenth place out of 21 regions.
