In a press conference, Cristiano Ronaldo moved bottles of Coca-Cola out of the camera view.

A harmless gesture that caused a reaction on social networks and which above all made the action of the soda giant plunge.

The company lost four billion dollars in a few hours, although it is an official sponsor of the Euro.

"Agua, not Coca-Cola": it is with these four words that Cristiano Ronaldo caused a cold sweat to the world soda giant.

Monday, the day before Portugal's match against Hungary at the Euro (won 3-0 by the Lusitanians), the star of the Seleção das quinas appeared at a press conference with his coach Fernando Santos.

While the journalists were preparing to ask them questions, Cristiano Ronaldo grabbed two bottles of Coke placed in front of him to move them out of the field of the cameras.

A small gesture which made a lot of talk and which cost Coca-Cola dearly.

Cristiano Ronaldo, not a fan of sodas

Indeed, the American company is an official sponsor of Euro football. In other words, the brand pays dearly to be highlighted during the competition, especially during press conferences through small bottles placed in front of the players. Except that Cristiano Ronaldo, known for his very strict lifestyle, is not a fan of sodas. "Sometimes my son drinks Coca-Cola or Fanta and eats crisps and he knows I don't like it," the Portuguese had already said in 2020.

It is not known if Cristiano Ronaldo wanted to send a prevention message, if he did not wish to be personally associated with sodas, or if he was just asking for water for his personal use instead of sodas.

Either way, the 36-year-old will not be sanctioned by UEFA.

The European body told

Liberation

that "no disciplinary proceedings would be opened against Cristiano Ronaldo".

"Everyone is free to drink the drinks they prefer," she adds.

Coca-Cola loses big, Pogba imitates Ronaldo

Still, this small gesture has cost Coca-Cola dear.

Since this unusual event, the group's share has fallen from 56 to 55 dollars on the New York Stock Exchange, a drop of 1% in two days.

It is not much, but it was enough to make the group lose four billion dollars, whose capitalization fell from 242 to 238 billion dollars.

Which says a lot about the influence of Cristiano Ronaldo, followed by 300 million people on Instagram and the face of many brands.

When Pogba plays it Cristiano Ronaldo!

The fivefold Ballon d'Or was even imitated on Tuesday by Paul Pogba. After the victory against Germany, the French moved, still at a press conference but without giving an explanation, a bottle of Heineken, another sponsor of the Euro. But the action of the beer giant did not suffer.
