On the 11th, Alcon and Beijing Tongren Eye Center held the unveiling ceremony of the joint eye surgery training base.

During the event, Wei Wenbin analyzed the current situation of domestic ophthalmology clinical personnel training.

According to the "China Eye Health White Paper" issued by the National Health Commission in 2020, the overall incidence of myopia in Chinese adolescents is 53.6%, and the overall incidence of college students exceeds 90%; the incidence of cataracts in people over 60 years old is as high as 80%, which is still China The first blinding disease; fundus lesions caused by glaucoma, metabolic-related ophthalmopathy, and high myopia are prominent, and cataracts have become the current major blinding diseases in China.

The data also shows that there are approximately 44,800 ophthalmologists in the country, which means that out of an average of about 50,000 Chinese, only 1.6 ophthalmologists provide medical services.

The increasing demand for diagnosis and treatment of ophthalmology has put forward higher requirements for the overall quality of diagnosis and treatment of ophthalmologists and the number of talents.

"Over the past 40 years of reform and opening up, the overall development of ophthalmology should be said to have been rapid. We are getting closer and closer to foreign technology, but the doctor training system is our shortcoming." Wei Wenbin said that there are now more than 40,000 ophthalmologists in China. Doctors, less than a quarter of doctors can actually perform operations.

He analyzed that there are currently two training systems for doctors in the hospital, one is the standardized training of residents, and the other is the training of specialists. These two training systems ensure the creation of basic knowledge and basic clinical skills.

But one of the shortcomings of this training system is that there are few opportunities for doctors to actually do it.

"So we have to make up the lessons of practical operation and practical ability training, and truly make the training an important part of the doctor's growth process." Wei Wenbin emphasized.

The reporter learned from the event that the establishment of this training base aims to strengthen medical education for ophthalmologists, improve the practice skills of ophthalmologists in microsurgery, and improve patient experience and treatment effects.

Alcon and Beijing Tongren Eye Center will provide national standardized training residents, specialist training attending doctors and refresher doctors, etc., provide minimally invasive vitreoretinal surgery skills training, cataract phacoemulsification surgery skills training and standardization of multiple subspecialties of ophthalmology Surgical training courses.

In 2020, Alcon launched the Alcon Medical Education Project. The project mainly provides standardized and accessible medical education promotion programs for ophthalmologists through cooperation with Chinese ophthalmology education institutions, industry associations and academic leaders, and focuses on creating a standardized surgical training and assessment training system in the field of ophthalmic microsurgery training. In 2020, the Alcon Medical Education Project has cooperated with 11 ophthalmology teaching and medical institutions across the country. (Finish)
