A Pokémon card was sold for nearly 12,000 euros in Troyes.

It is a Charizard that flew away for this staggering price.

Auctions dedicated to these cards reached a record in France with a total of 85,000 euros for 100% of the 94 lots sold.

A Pokémon card was auctioned for nearly 12,000 euros on Tuesday in Troyes, the organizer announced on Wednesday, pointing out that with a total of 85,000 euros spent for Pokémon and Magic cards, this sale reached a record for this type of auctions in France.

"Charizard, THE emblematic card of the Pokémon game", estimated between 2,500 and 3,000 euros, found a taker at 11,904 euros.

"With a total of 85,000 euros for 100% of the 94 lots sold", this auction of the collection of Pokémon and Magic cards of an individual achieves "the best results ever obtained in an auction in France", s' Congratulations to the Ivoire Troyes auction house.

The seller, Maxime L., 33, has been collecting Magic and Pokémon cards since he was 11, according to information released by Ivoire Troyes.

He also plays with these cards, which today constitute for some a real investment throughout Europe.

Charizard auction star

On June 11, the first auction exclusively devoted to Pokémon cards was held in France, at the Hotel Drouot, in Paris.

The centerpiece of the sale was then another Charizard card, almost new and first edition (1999), estimated between 10,000 and 12,000 euros, but it had been sold "only" 7,800 euros.

On February 22, however, a Charizard card was sold for 509,969 dollars (420,505 euros) in the United States. Twenty-five years after its appearance, the Pokémon saga ("pocket monsters") created by the Japanese giant Nintendo continues to appeal to young and old. Its license, which is available in video games and cartoons, is one of the most profitable in the world.
