Athletes participating in this year's Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games may be subject to financial sanctions as well as disqualification if they violate the COVID-19 quarantine rules.

The Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games Organizing Committee released the 3rd edition of the 'Playbook (Rulebook)' that summarizes the contents that athletes must follow today (15th).

This is a supplement to the content of the second edition, which was released two months ago, and it specifies the possibility of monetary sanctions and deportation as a penalty for violation of the rules, in addition to disqualification from participating in the game.

It also specifically described a plan to quarantine in a lodging and nursing facility outside the athletes' village if the test for COVID-19 is positive.

The daily COVID-19 test for athletes will be conducted in the form of an antigen test.

If you submit a saliva sample at 9 am or 6 pm every day, the test results will come out at 9 pm on the same day or 6 am the next day, respectively.

If the antigen test is positive, the clinic within the athlete's village has asked them to undergo a gene amplification (PCR) test again to collect the mucous membrane in the nose.
