In Hungary, thousands of people have demonstrated against a planned law that the government of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will use to ban “advertising” for homosexuality or sex reassignment among minors.

More than 5000 people with rainbow flags gathered in front of the parliament in Budapest on Monday.

MPs are expected to approve the bill this Tuesday.

Orban's Fidesz party introduced the bill to parliament last Thursday.

Educational programs on homosexuality or advertising by large companies that declare their solidarity with homosexuals are to be banned in the future, as are educational books on the subject.

"Violation of European values"

If the draft is passed, freedom of expression and children's rights in Hungary would be severely curtailed, criticized an alliance of five non-governmental organizations, including Amnesty International.

The Fidesz party is copying “dictatorial models that violate European values”.

Hungary had already taken action against homosexuals and others in December with a legislative package that met with international criticism. Among other things, it stipulates that the sex of birth cannot be changed and it prohibits homosexuals from adopting children.
