State customs seized 923,000 counterfeit items last year

The customs sector in the country seized 923,724 counterfeit items during the past year, in 41 seizures, according to the Intellectual Property Rights Report for the year 2020, which was recently issued by the Federal Customs Authority. Seizures by sea transport amounted to 70.73%, followed by air transport seizures with 19.51% and land transport. Parcels and Express Mail 4.88% each.

The Commissioner of Customs and Chairman of the Authority, Ali Saeed Matar Al Neyadi, stressed that combating counterfeit goods and protecting intellectual property rights are among the priorities of customs work in the country, as the efforts of the Authority and local customs departments contribute to protecting society, consumers, brand owners and the private sector from the resulting security, economic, commercial and social damage For the infringement of intellectual property rights and the spread of counterfeit goods.
