There was a majority (13-11) to tear up the old decision to close the Pionjären nursing home in Porjus.

but local councilor Robert Bernhardsson (S) proposed a minority referendum and for that only a third of the members' votes are required.

And so it was.

"Porjus residents got a respite"

So now the municipality will carry out a long-term planning of the need for care and nursing places in the municipality and where the activities will be located.

The Social Democrat Mariana Eriksson from Porjus stuck to her line and voted against her party.

She was one of the thirteen out of 24 who followed the no-line not to shut down the Pioneer.

- But there will be no closure right now in any case.

The people of Porjus have been given a respite, a deadline, and that is good.

It is only to be hoped that the majority that exists to not close down the nursing home can hold together until the next meeting, says group leader Henrik Blind (MP).

"A gigantic deficit"

Municipal councilor Robert Bernhardsson (S) refers to the municipality's interim report on the social services committee's forecast for the whole year - minus SEK 12.9 million - and believes that the committee must do something about the large deficit.

- They are heading for a gigantic deficit and we must get a message from the social services committee how much you can save until the turn of the year. Therefore, there was a minority re-referral about the future need for places. The social services committee has a huge challenge ahead of it, he says.
