"Sanctions are important," CNBC quoted Stoltenberg as saying.
According to him, the sanctions that were introduced after the situation with Crimea should continue to operate.
He noted that NATO will continue to provide support to Georgia and Ukraine.
Earlier, US Assistant to the President for National Security Jake Sullivan said that NATO will change its strategic concept, in which Russia is defined as a "constructive partner."
