Damage to various properties costs Karlstad municipality hundreds of thousands of kronor every year.

In an attempt to reduce the damage and make the school areas safer places outside school hours, the municipality is now applying to the Privacy Protection Authority to set up four surveillance cameras at Frödingskolan, five at Norrstrandsskolan and seven at Kronoparksskolan.

Not during the day

But municipal councilor Niklas Wikström (L), who is responsible for safety and anxiety issues in the municipal board, says that it is not a question of monitoring students during school hours.

- These are evenings and weekends and holidays when you see that there is an extra lot of clutter, it happens that you break windows, scrawls and such, Niklas Wikström explains.
