Japanese Prime Minister Suga, who visited the UK to attend the G7 summit of seven major countries, is said to have repeatedly reiterated his position that the South Korean side should come up with a solution to the issue of conscription and comfort women after meeting with President Moon Jae-in.
According to Japanese media such as Kyodo News and the Mainichi Shimbun, Prime Minister Suga said this to the accompanying reporters after the G7 summit in Cornwall, UK, closed yesterday (13th).
Prime Minister Suga explained about his first meeting with President Moon on the occasion of the G7 summit, "President Moon came to greet him at the same meeting room and greeted him without being rude."
"President Moon came to say hello at the barbecue dinner," he said.
Prime Minister Suga reiterated his awareness that South Korea should come up with a solution, saying he wanted President Moon to show leadership in issues such as the conscription and comfort women, Japanese media reported.
The leaders of South Korea and Japan met for the first time at the conference hall on the 12th to say hello, and it is known that they met for about a minute at a banquet on the same day, but there was no official or informal meeting.
The Korea-U.S.-Japan summit, which was triggered by the G7 summit, did not take place either.
In response, Kyodo News analyzed that the U.S. led the effort to realize it, but President Biden seems to have prioritized the schedule with the European leaders, and analyzed that "the creaky Korea-Japan relationship also seems to have had an impact."
