During 2021-2023, the municipality has been granted just over SEK 300,000 from the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency for a project to increase biodiversity.

The project, falls within the framework of something called Local nature conservation initiatives (LONA), and means that some of the municipality's green areas will not be cut, but become more of a classic meadow.

The hope is that this will be able to provide species-rich environments where bees and bumblebees find more food and butterfly larvae have time to develop into new butterflies.

More meadow land in the future

Fewer green areas to mow also means that emissions from lawnmowers can be reduced, which also benefits the environment.

If the project turns out well, it could mean that Vaggeryd's municipality could in the long run have similar care on more green areas in the future.

In the clip above, the environmental strategist in Vaggeryd municipality, Lina Larsson, tells more about the project.
