It will take two weeks for the first results of the analysis of Olivia's biological remains to determine if she had chemicals in her body.
This is the
opinion of
the
National
Institute
of Toxicology and Forensic Sciences
based in La Laguna.
The autopsy attributed the death to acute lung edema, which experts say may be compatible with drowning due to suffocation.
By addressing this conclusion such a broad spectrum, toxicological tests have been carried out that, predictably, will help to further specify the circumstances in which the crime occurred.
The autopsy determined that the 6-year-old girl died of severe lung edema.
Acute lung edema is caused by a flooding of the lungs, in this case water.
It is a first approximation and in no case is it a conclusive report.
However, this technical definition does not allow, for the moment, to specify the exact circumstances surrounding
Olivia's death
since the pulmonary edema could have been after the supply, for example, of some anxiolytic substance.
Hence, toxicological analyzes have been requested, the conclusions of which are slower.
The investigation extends this result to
Anna
, the youngest of the
missing
sisters
in Tenerife
, whom sonar continues to search relentlessly.
The girl, agents suspect, was in the gym bag that appeared empty next to the duffel bag in which Olivia was found.
Both bags were weighed down by the anchor of Tomás Gimeno's boat and by his compressed air bottle.
The body was found by the underwater tracking robot of the oceanographic vessel
Ángeles Alvariño
at a depth of about 1,000 meters and about three miles off the coast of Tenerife.
