The authorities have just renewed for the 22nd time in a row, since March 2020, the state of health emergency, thus maintaining the curfew measures in Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire or even the closure of nightclubs.

The populations say they are tired and ask for the relaxation of the curfew which intervenes on weekends and holidays from 8 p.m.

On the square of the so-called Eboma Mpoko bus station, at the north exit of Brazzaville, Guilain Madzou and one of his friends are waiting for the bus to return home.

But the bus in question is late when barely 45 minutes separate them from the time of the curfew;

a curfew that they now shun.

It is for them a moment of anguish.

It's a situation that bothers us because we take advantage of weekend days to visit families, just like public holidays.

We chose these days to limit the curfew time to 8 p.m.

I come from far away and have to run quickly to get home.

It bothers me

, ”says Madzou.

Government restrictive measures are aimed at protecting citizens.

But they sometimes wonder.

It is only at night that we catch the disease.

However, it is during the day that we find ourselves in the markets, and at night we confine

ourselves, ”says Madzou.

34-year-old taxi driver Georges Nkou is annoyed by the fact that he stops working at sunset.

Work is really stuck on weekends.

We have been in this situation for a year and three months.

We do not feel at liberty.

We have the impression that there is someone following us behind

”.

Officially the Congo has already recorded 160 deaths from Covid-19, an average of 10 deaths per month.
