An industrial plant in

Lleida

has registered an ammonia leak this Sunday afternoon that has forced

the external emergency plan of the Catalan chemical sector (Plaseqcat) of Civil Protection

to activate in the

alert phase

.

A worker in the industry has had respiratory problems and has been treated by the Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques (SEM), which has discharged him 'in situ', Protecció Civil explained in a statement.

The Bombers of the Generalitat have sent six teams and have accessed the facilities with protective equipment, after receiving the notice at 6:00 pm;

once inside, they

have closed the valves to control the escape

.

The leak has only affected the interior of the enclosure, so it has not been necessary to evacuate the area where the plant is located, on

Camí de Picos

street

.

The alert has been deactivated around 9:45 p.m., once the firefighters have finished ventilating.
