The Sudanese Minister of Irrigation, Yasser Abbas, said that it is certain that Ethiopia will start the second filling of the Renaissance Dam next July, stressing that his country is open to concluding a temporary partial agreement regarding the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, but with specific conditions.

Abbas added - in a press conference today, Monday - that Sudan is the most affected by the issue of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, and that he is committed to signing an agreement on the dam, although nothing new has occurred regarding the negotiations on the dam since last April.

He added, "Sudan accepts a partial interim agreement to fill before operating the Renaissance Dam, with 3 conditions, including signing what was previously agreed upon, ensuring the continuity of negotiation, and that the negotiation be according to a time limit."

He stressed that Sudan has no objection to a water-sharing agreement, but Ethiopia's demand to include the issue of water-sharing in the file of the Renaissance Dam is an impossible demand.

Abbas pointed out that Sudan intends to go to the Security Council, in addition to that it has completed its legal file against the Renaissance Dam and will choose the appropriate time to file a lawsuit against Ethiopia.

Ethiopian insistence

For his part, the Ethiopian National Intelligence and Security Chief Temsijn Tarouneh confirmed that the second mobilization of the Renaissance Dam will take place in a smooth and safe manner.

Tarouneh said that all the conspiracies that targeted the dam by the country's enemies failed, as he described it.

He stressed that the security establishment is capable of confronting those hostile parties that seek to harm Ethiopia's strategic interests.
