Zion-a Chana, an Indian man known as the head of the world's largest family with 38 wives, 89 children and 33 grandchildren, passed away on the 13th at the age of 76.

Joramtanga, the prime minister of the state of Mizoram in northeastern India, wrote on his Twitter on the same day, "Mizoram said farewell to Sion-Asi with a heartbreaking heart."

"With 38 wives and 89 children, he was considered to be the head of the largest family in the world," said Prime Minister Joramtanga.

He added that thanks to the Zion-Ah family, the village has become an important tourist attraction.

According to Indian media, Sion-Ah died at a hospital in Aizol, the capital of Mizoram.

Sion-Ah, who has been suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure, recently deteriorated and became unconscious on the 11th, The Hindu reported.

Zion-Ah was the head of a religious group called the 'Chana sect'.

The sect was founded by his father in 1942, and the group of over 400 families allows polygamy.

He married a woman three years older than him at the age of 17, and the number of his family has grown rapidly since then.

Zion-ah's family lived in a four-story building with over 100 rooms.

The name of the building became known as the 'New Generation Home'.

Some media reported that the number of Sion-Ah's family members is higher than what Prime Minister Joramtanga said.

The Hindu reported, "The number of wives and children of Zion-Ah is 39 and 94, respectively, and 33 and 1 of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A total of 181 family members lived under one roof."

Zion-ah's wife and children lived in separate rooms, but shared a kitchen.

The building they live in has also become a major tourist attraction in the state of Mizoram.

Shion-ah's family was introduced twice in 2011 and 2013 on the broadcast program 'Ripley's Believe It or Not'.
