Today, Sunday, the leaders of the Group of Seven countries will conclude their summit in southwest England, after they showed during their meetings unity in facing the influence of China and Russia, and their determination to return the world to its normal course after the Corona pandemic.

The second day of the summit ended yesterday, Saturday, after intensive working sessions and side meetings away from the limelight, with a relaxing time at the "Carbis Bay" resort in the "Cornwall" area.

Joint initiatives were announced during the first in attendance summit in nearly two years due to Corona, but the picture of consensus was tarnished by differences that came out into the open, between the Europeans and the British regarding Britain's exit from the European Union (Brexit) and the thorny file of Northern Ireland.

The work of the summit on its last day focused on climate, which is a major challenge for the United Kingdom, which will host, next November, the major United Nations climate summit "COP26".

Observers saw that one of the most prominent goals of US President Joe Biden - on his first trip abroad - is to consolidate the ranks of his British, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Canadian allies in the face of Moscow and Beijing.

In this context, China today warned the leaders of the Group of Seven that the days when "small" groups of countries decided the fate of the world are long gone.

"We always believe that countries are equal, big or small, strong or weak, poor or rich, and that global affairs should be handled in consultation among all countries," a spokesman for the Chinese embassy in London said.

In addition to these files, the G7 leaders intend to halt the decline of biodiversity by 2030, by protecting at least 30% of land and seas, while London will launch a fund worth 500 million pounds (more than 582 million euros) to protect the oceans and marine ecosystems in countries such as Ghana and Indonesia.

In terms of combating Corona, the Group of Seven adopted a plan to prevent the spread of epidemics in the future, after it promised to provide one billion doses of anti-Covid-19 vaccines to poor countries, where vaccination campaigns are still slow.

After the closing statement and traditional press conferences, Biden will meet key allies during a NATO summit in Brussels, before an upcoming meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday in Geneva.
