It is a walker who reported the presence of an explosive device stranded on the beach of Carcans in Gironde, on June 5, 2021, around 12:40 p.m.

The Lacanau gendarmerie brigade explained this Saturday in a Facebook post that the reconnaissance carried out on the spot by the soldiers and their photographic images "allowed the Brest demining service to determine that it was an incendiary bomb of 'German origin, in fairly good condition'.

The machine measured nearly two meters with a diameter of 70 cm and weighed nearly 400 kg.

On June 6 at 8 a.m., a team of seven clearance divers intervened on the beach to remove the percussion and firing mechanism of the bomb.

“Due to the tide, the operation to destroy the components of the machine took place the next day from 8 am.

It took four explosions to separately destroy the various components of the bomb, ”detail the gendarmes.

Once defused, the machine which had spent nearly eighty years in the seabed was evacuated by municipal services.
