PTS is currently developing a new set of rules for mail delivery.

One of the proposals means that Postnord will have the right to designate a place to collect several mailboxes in the same place.

The place for distribution may be no more than 200 meters from the home.

- For the large number of users, we think that you can have a little longer to your device than today, says Emma Maraschin at PTS.

Those who today have their own mailbox or their own letter box may thus need to go to a box collection if it is a residential area or device with boxes if you live in an apartment.

It may also be possible for letters and packages to be distributed in the same place.

May enter into force in 2023

For several years, letter volumes have fallen sharply, while e-commerce and parcel deliveries are increasing.

- We know that postal issues are something that arouses strong feelings.

And I think that initially it can certainly raise concerns about how this should go, says Emma Maraschin.

For those who today have a long way to the mailbox - often far longer than 200 meters - PTS states that it must not be even longer.

The process is still at an early stage and PTS expects that the proposals may enter into force in 2023.

The Tenants' Association and the Property Owners believe that this is a really bad proposal.

- We are very concerned about this proposal, which risks leading to a sharp deterioration in the service around the mail delivery, says Rikard Silverfur, head of development and sustainability at Fastighetsägarna.

Around 4.4 million households are affected by the proposal and could have the mailbox moved.

Members upset

- We think it is a lousy proposal, says Kenneth Berglund, investigator for urban development at the Tenants' Association.

- We believe that our members will be upset if this proposal becomes a reality.

This means deteriorating community service and probably increased costs for tenants.

The proposal states that people with disabilities or old age should not have to go to a drawer collection or property box.

But the Tenants' Association believes that there can be difficult demarcations.

However, Postnord, which is responsible for the universal postal service, downplays the consequences for existing residential areas.

- There will be no major changes in practice, says Henrik Ishihara on the company's press service.
