On June 12 local time, the Presidential Palace of the Philippines issued an announcement that Philippine President Duterte and Russian President Vladimir Putin exchanged congratulatory messages during the celebration of national holidays and pledged to strengthen bilateral relations.

  Duterte congratulated Putin on Russia’s National Day "Russia Day" in the congratulatory message.

He said: "In this day of unity and celebration of this country, let me convey the best wishes of the Filipino people to the continued success and prosperity of your great country. This year marks the 45th anniversary of the development of the friendly and fruitful relationship between the Philippines and Russia. I am very happy to be here. Commemorate this special milestone with your Excellency on June 2."

  He said: "I believe that as we deepen cooperation in more areas of common interests, including jointly fighting the new crown pneumonia pandemic, our strong relationship will continue to flourish in the next few years."

  According to the Philippine News Agency, Putin also sent a congratulatory letter to Duterte on the same day to celebrate the 123rd Independence Day of the Philippines.

  "Russia and the Philippines have a traditional friendship. I believe that through joint efforts, we will further promote bilateral constructive dialogue, fruitful cooperation in various fields, and work together to meet urgent international challenges." Putin said in the letter: "This is fully in line with us. The interests of both parties are also in line with the strengthening of security and stability in the Asia-Pacific region."

  Putin wished Duterte good health and success in his career, and wished the Filipino people happiness and prosperity.

  On April and June 2 this year, the two sides held two telephone summits to discuss the response to the new crown pneumonia epidemic and defense cooperation.
