According to an evaluation by the Check24 booking portal, return flights to the ten most popular destinations booked in May cost an average of 16 percent more than in 2019.
As a result, prices for flights to the Netherlands (plus 114 percent), Switzerland (101 percent) and Austria (81 percent) rose particularly strongly.
But airlines also added an average of 22 percent for connections to Spain, for example.
"One of the main reasons for the rising airfares is that the airlines have planned more cautiously in the corona pandemic," said Sebastian Sager, Managing Director of Flights at Check24.

Rental prices are increasing
If you want to rent a car at your holiday destination, you have to dig much deeper into your pocket than in the year before the pandemic.
According to Check24's observation, rental car prices have risen sharply recently, especially on popular holiday islands - by around a quarter (23 percent) on average.
In Ibiza, for example, travelers paid on average more than three times as much per day as in 2019. On Mallorca, a rental car costs almost 200 percent more than before the pandemic, while in Sicily it costs twice as much.
One reason for the price jumps, according to the assessment of the booking portal: Many landlords are not able to replenish their rental car fleets, which were reduced during the pandemic, at short notice.
