At the G7 summit, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga expressed his strong will to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo, which is scheduled to open on the 23rd of next month.



According to the Japanese government, Prime Minister Suga decided to hold the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics at the G7 Summit held in Cornwall, England, on the 11th, saying, "I want to let the world know that Japan can overcome difficulties with human effort and foresight." made clear.



Prime Minister Suga also said, "I want to convey dreams and impressions to children and young people," and emphasized that "it is also an opportunity to tell the story of the recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake."



He said, "We are taking all possible infection countermeasures and preparing for the Tokyo Games to be held in a safe and secure manner." He said, "I look forward to the world-class players playing the best games."



One of the G7 leaders said at the meeting that "representing the unanimous vote, I am confident of the success of the Tokyo Games," the Japanese government said.



An official from the Japanese delegation said, "It is Japan's expectation that other countries in the G7 share Japan's thoughts. It is very encouraging for us that the G7 supports Japan's efforts (for the Olympics)."



Prime Minister Suga also drew support for the Tokyo Olympics in a meeting with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson earlier on the same day.
