On April 30 this year, Mats Ekstrand, former IT director, left Region Skåne.

His assignment has in many ways been to push for the digitalisation of healthcare in Skåne.

"I had decided that it was time to do something else, especially after three very intensive and hard-working years as head of administration with responsibility for IT and digitalisation in healthcare," writes Mats Ekstrand, in an email to SVT Nyheter Skåne.

In his capacity as IT director, Mats Ekstrand was the one who in September 2018 signed the award decision for Vårdinnovation, the company behind Vårdexpressen.

In May 2019, Ekstrand also signed the agreement to purchase Vårdexpressen for the region.

The contract value amounted to SEK 320 million excluding VAT.

More boss resignations

Earlier this year, Ekstrand also left his post as steering group chairman for Skåne's digital healthcare system, SDV, which includes the new medical record system: “It was simply that the project went from a phase with a“ technology focus ”to a more“ clinical focus ”in the end of 2020. It was thus time for a person with deep roots in healthcare to take over as chairman. ”

But Mats Ekstrand is not the only senior manager who has left Region Skåne recently.

Jan Svensson will also resign as Deputy Head of Administration for Digitization, IT and Medical Technology in Region Skåne on 31 August this year.

He writes in an email to SVT: "It is true that I will leave my job in Region Skåne, which I have chosen to do for purely personal reasons."

Former project owner

Jan Svensson has been one of the people responsible for the new medical record system and, among other things, answered SVT's questions about the risk analyzes when handling the Scanian patient data within the framework of SDV.

In a number of articles and programs, SVT has examined SDV and the new American medical record system Millennium, which will be introduced throughout Scanian healthcare.

Initially, Svensson was also the project owner for the procurement that later led to Vårdexpressen being purchased. "I did not participate in either the procurement itself or in the award," Svensson writes to SVT.
