The Pope's thought - during his pontificate - was repeatedly addressed to the many starving, abandoned, exploited, forced into war, rejected children. "The only certain thing is that millions of children in the world are victims of exploitation" he said at the meeting on Protections of minors in the Church in February 2019. While during the Angelus of 4 October 2015 he underlined how "it is painful to see the images of unhappy children, with lost eyes, fleeing poverty and conflict, knocking on our doors and hearts, begging for help "

Finally, in 2018, in a speech at the Second International Forum on Modern Slavery, he stated that "there would be more than 40 million people, men, but above all women and children, who suffer slavery. It is a crime against humanity. we can pretend to be distracted: we are all called to get out of any form of hypocrisy, facing the reality that we are part of the problem.
