The number of people infected with 'black mold disease' (the official name is hairy fungus), which is spreading in India recently, has exceeded 31,000, and the death toll from it has exceeded 2,100 each.

According to Indian media such as NDTV on the 2nd, the number of black mold infections has increased by 150% in the past three weeks, and the total number so far is 31,216.

The total number of deaths has reached 2,109.

Maharashtra has the highest number of black mold infections with 7,507, followed by Gujarat with 5,418.

These regions, located in western India, have been the major spread of COVID-19.

The cumulative number of black mold infections in India is 8,848 as of May 22 and 11,717 as of May 26, increasing rapidly.

The reason for the sharp increase in the number of infections and deaths is a serious shortage of the main treatment, antifungal drug Amphotericin-B.
